Alexandru Garbacea: “I will be extremely careful”
“Everyone’s afraid of something”. But it’ll take a whole lot more to impress Alexandru Garbacea. The young man grew up in Brasov, a few kilometres away from Count Dracula’s castle… and he now lives in a street named after Vlad Tepes, the real name of the famous Count! But the Carpates area doesn’t come as a bad sign for the Romanian. On the contrary, the mountains of Transylvania where the scene of his first bike outings, a place where he continues to train: “Every day, I leave on my bike and go in the mountains”, he explains.
Used to all terrains, Alexandru Garbacea isn’t worried about taking on the sandy and rocky paths of the Dakar. He however remains very careful: “This year, my first rally in the desert, in Egypt went rather well. I finished 30th overall. I didn’t have any physical problems but I do feel that this type of event is quite dangerous. I will therefore be extremely careful and ride slowly when needed”. A wise thought especially because at 24 years of age, Alexandru Garbacea would like to do “many other Dakar rallies”.
