Yvan Mees: «I thought about doing the Dakar for ten years »

Yvan Mees like his job as a hair dresser a lot, but « it is very important for me to do other things outside my profession”, says Yvan. The Belgian has invested his spare time in a completely different domain: motorcycling, which he’s done for some 20 years. The Dakar soon became an objective for Yvan, who has taken part in several “smaller’ rallies, like the Touareg – “I did it six times,” he underscores, “I have thought about doing the Dakar for ten years. It’s hard to find the budget, but, fortunately, I have a lot of friends and sponsors!”

Obviously, Yvan Mees imagines his first Dakar will be “very hard”. “I am not worried about the technical side”, he says. “Some of the smaller rallies I have done are maybe more technical, but they’re not as long”. He has no doubt he’ll taste his share of sand. Does he already see himself coming back? “We’ll see after the finish!”
