Ronn Bailey: "I remain a real amateur"
"It is for me a privilege and a great honour to be on the Dakar among so many great professional drivers. All have been so nice to me. They accepted me and taught me a lot". Ronn Bailey likes the Dakar and that’s the least one can say. He likes everything in the race: "the spirit, the adventure..." However the American never managed to reach Dakar on time in three appearances. "Every year, I drove all the way to Senegal’s capital by my own means and I’m very proud of that", he likes to insist.
A successful businessman – he owns a company that edits security software – a real adventurer – he has notably been to the polar circle on a bike - , Ronn Bailey isn’t the kind of man who gives up. Pleasure and determination have been key during his three appearances on the rally. This year, he’ll be driving his fourth Dakar but only his tenth race in a car. "I remain a real amateur", explains Bailey who will be pairing up with famous US driver Robby Gordon in a team they launched together, the Team Dakar USA. The goal: be the first American team to win the Dakar. "Robby is considered by many as the fastest driver in the World, confirms Ronn Bailey. I will therefore give him my equipment and experience to help him win". Concerning himself, he would be very happy to be in the leading 20 at the finish of "a race that brings together the best drivers in the World".
