Saida Ibrahimi: "Proud to be part of the first Moroccan team on the Dakar"
Those who might imagine the Moroccan woman as someone stuck in a kitchen are deeply wrong. Head of exportations in a cosmetic company Saida Ibrahimi declares with pride, "I earn quite a lot of money". With that money, she lives a passion that isn’t that widespread among the women: car racing.
Better than that, she even created at the beginning of 2007, the Maghreb motorsports association that she chairs. A position that makes this businesswoman consider the future of these disciplines in Morocco. "We have drivers but they are getting older and the young generation isn’t present enough. I would like to start formation programs". Indeed, more than being the flag holder for the cause of women, she wants to promote motorsports in her country.
"I’m very proud to be part of the first Moroccan team on the Dakar, explains Saida Ibrahimi. But I have to do it with my own money because sponsoring a vehicle isn’t part of the Moroccan culture". The helping hand from ASO that will not ask for a registration fee was greatly welcomed.
To help her out during her first Dakar, Saida Ibrahimi will be able to count on a reference in Moroccan motorsports with the likes of Abdelouahad Ettoubaji, present in many car races on home soil. "I followed the Dakar as a spectator when it went through Morocco, he says. And I know all the tracks, all the paths. At home I have a collection of over 1 000 road books".
