Santiago Larroquette: "You have to remain cold blooded"
The Dakar terrain won’t be a difficulty for Santiago Larroquette. He’s witnessed sand and stones quite a bit while he was riding his bike across the South American continent. "Often with my brother Ezéchiel and his friends, we would take off for several days after looking at a map and finding nice places. In San Buenaventura in the Catamarca area, we were the ones to set a path. It didn’t exist before. To go to Guayaguas in the San Juan area it was a real adventure. We had to do a lot of navigation and take on very difficult conditions". Whether it’s for raids with friends, just due to the hazard of names appearing on a map or during rallies in Argentina, Santiago has worked on his technique on all kind of terrain and collected some fine performances. For his first Dakar where everything is new, it’s the number of competitors that impresses him most: "I’m not used to big numbers in terms of competitors. It’s my only concern on the rally". Meticulous, he prepared during the whole year for his meeting with the Dakar: "All the biker know that it’s the biggest ever adventure", he explains. Physical preparation, medical advice to deal with food and sleep, Santiago who’s been riding bikes ever since the age of five feels ready: "I’ll need to be strong physically and remain cold blooded".
