Tomaz Merhar: « A competition between man and nature »
In Morocco, Last year, it was a dream constructed patiently over a period of 20 years that came to a sudden end. Tomaz Merhar injured his hand in Ouarzazate after a crash “at high speed”. He was okay, so was the dream. Tomaz is in fact back this year with “the desire to finish the job that he left uncompleted last year”. He can’t really explain his crash convinced he followed an optimal preparation. “It was just unlucky”, he says. Tomaz isn’t aiming for the top of the hierarchy. To see Lake Rose will be plenty for this humble but determined man. “The other competitors don’t matter, for me, the Dakar is a competition between man and nature, but it is also a personal challenge. The goal is to push your own limits”.
To accomplish his objective, Tomaz has put in countless hours of training. Enduro racing, trial riding, bicycling competition and exercise in the gym. The Slovenian is doing everything he possibly can in his bid to make it to Dakar. But he also knows nothing is ever easy on the Dakar. “All the competitors owe an immense respect for this legendary rally”. Tomaz is a member of the Ljubljana Lion’s Club. A lover of Africa, he collects funds for the financing of a school.
