Jacek Czachor: "When everyone is tired, I accelerate"

He could have been named the "Mister consistency" of the rally. In eight appearances, Jacek Czachor has never quit the race. After three first rallies that proved his constant progression (46th, 24th and then 20th), the biker entered the circle of the top fifteen riders in 2003 (13th). He has never left it since then. It isn’t on the forecast for this new edition that the Polish mechanic hopes to finish in the Top 10. But this year, Jacek who likes to be called the "desert Pole" and feels “at home in Africa", will have to adapt. “I’m more of a technical rider”, he explains. “So I await impatiently the big dunes of Chile. That’s where I can make the difference and gain time”. And sand remains his favourite terrain. "It really is what I prefer. Even in Poland I train on sand”. But this year, whatever the continent, his strategy remains the same: “I’m the kind of rider that goes faster and faster as the race goes by. I start slowly and then at the 7th or 8th stage when everyone is tired, I accelerate”. Jacek rides thousands of kilometres all year round. He only rarely misses out on a rally. His consistency finished by paying: Jacek was indeed crowned 2007 and 2008 450cc rally champion. A little triumph that has today given him quite some notoriety in his country.
