Jos Jansen: “Not the competition, the adventure”
It’s never too late. Even at 54 years of age, one can still start the Dakar. But Jos Jansen is well aware that reason isn’t on his side. So does his family actually. His wife and his son, who has taken over the family printing company, talk to him about the dangers of this uncommon rally. He answers by talking about his dream and his knowledge: “I ride simply to finish and that isn’t dangerous”. Jos Jansen knows what he’s doing. He started working at the age of 14. He knows just too well the difficulty of life. For several years now he has slowly moved away from his company that employs 15 people and turned to his passion for motorsports. With his friends Kurt (Dujardyn) and Anton (Gonissen), he wants to reach the finish and achieve the Grand Slam of the Raptor team: three friends at the finish. The motivations of Jos and Co are simple: “For us it’s not competition, it’s adventure”. Thanks to Kurt, the quads are all set. Thanks to Anton, the spirit of discovery inhabits the team. Jos who was the team manager of his two friends in 2000 has also built his own philosophy: “For the moment I’m doing this Dakar. We don’t know what can happen after. The idea is for all three of us to finish. But if physically I can’t last, I’ll stop, that’s all. 10 000 kilometres is long”. Meanwhile, he was the one, who beat his partners, finishing 5th of the PAX Rally…
