Marek Dabrowski: «Not a single bad memory of Chile, despite my crash”
Marek Dabrowski has been on a physical decline for the past several years. Two years ago he set off from Lisbon barely healed from a leg injury, but that didn’t get in the way of a 24th place finish overall. This year, the Polish rider arrives in Buenos Aires just having recovered from a broken right hand, he injured while competing in an off-road event …in Chile. “I don’t have any bad memories of Chile, everyone is very nice there.”
The Pole freely admits that he is “not in the best condition to break in to the top 10”, and do as well as his personal best 9th overall in 2003. Be that as it may, that isn’t exactly his objective on this South American edition of the Dakar, but he does hope for a place in the “top 30”. His motorcycle enthusiasm will serve as “domestique” for team mate in the Orlen team, Jacek Czachor, of whom he has nothing but good things to say about.
Racing for the benefit of someone else doesn’t frustrate him. «The Dakar is my life. It is always a pleasure to do this rally and to see friends put in strong runs.” For his part, this wily veteran will, once again, implement the tactics that have taken him to the finish five times from seven participations: don’t take any undo risks and ride at only 50% of his capabilities. Marek knows too well: the Dakar is above all else a race of elimination.
