Jacky Loomans: "The Dakar? My yearly vacation"
The rally no longer has a lot of secret for him. But Jacky Loomans will start his 20th Dakar behind the steering wheel of his new Nissan like if it was his first. "For me the Dakar is my yearly vacation. It’s good for me, I charge my batteries and I really empty my head of the every day problems. I never take a shovel in the car. Just so that we are motivated not to get stuck in the sand". A paying philosophy. "It’s true that he deals with the sand rather well, adds his co-driver Joël Smets, but if there is a problem I’m the one who will have to get out of the car to push (he laughs)".
The two mates have known each other of twenty years. Marc was the most regular co-driver of Jacky, with whom he has a long collection of participations to the rallies of Tunisia, the Atlas, Dubai but also the Master Rally. This new edition will have a special taste; Jacky will indeed be celebrating two decades of Dakar rallies and therefore wanted a very experienced co-driver by his side. Marc Lauwers can boast of having competed in 6 full Dakars: 2 on a bike, 2 in a car and 2 in a truck. A little exploit added to the driving talent of Jacky makes the crew a serious candidate for a Top 30 finish. “We have the best car that we’ve ever had’’, says delighted Jacky. Prepared by Grégoire De Mevius, of Overdrive Racing, their Nissan Pick Up Navarra 06 develops 290 horse-power and could help them be under the spotlights.
