Francisco Pita: “I’m at the beginning of a cycle”
Hyper active and hyper sportive, Francisco Pita takes on the off-road rally adventure. With serious and method, well aware of the difficulties: “I know that a first Dakar is very difficult and this one is even tougher. It’ll be fast, there’ll be altitude. Basically it will be more complicated than in Africa”. President of the Portuguese jet-ski federation, Francisco takes on the challenge with the images of the previous starts in Portugal in his mind: “I would like the Dakar to come back to my country”, he admits. “But I’m focusing on this edition because I know that I’m at the beginning of a cycle on this event. I will do many Dakar rallies”. He has therefore decided to take his time before having real objectives: “I’m happy to just live a dream for the moment, the one of reaching the finish”. Used to sporting terms, Francisco has made of the mental aspect the key to his attempt. He has also worked on his physical training. Confident, Francisco mainly comes with a sense of freedom on the event because “the Toyota France team is a super team. We really have good conditions. I’m very fortunate”. His co-driver will also be a newcomer on the rally. Humberto Gonçalvès bases himself on his performances of the year to believe in his fate: “On the Pax Rally, it went well and on the Tunisia, we finished 4th of the T2 class”.
