Thomas Humily: “We don’t come with our hands in our pockets”
At 29 years of age, “impatient and curious” Thomas Humily takes on his very first Dakar. The young engineer has the event in his veins. His father, Jean-Paul, an old timer in terms of racing will come back this year on the event 21 years after his first appearance. The veteran will be competing with his old accomplice Jean-Pierre Melocco. Thomas will benefit from the help of Daniel Gouedard, an old family friend, also a newcomer on the Dakar. A water sports fanatic, Daniel finds in motorsports sensations that are dear to his heart: “We’re far from the everyday life. The objectives are very concrete and you have to adapt rapidly to everything. We don’t often see on TV the troubles of the amateurs but I know that there will be many”. Daniel has gained in insurance with time and says he’s ready for the hardest of races. “Fifteen years ago, I felt incapable of doing this. Today, yes”.
The two drivers (they will take turns) are delighted to live a Dakar like no others. Daniel: “Thomas and I know Africa very well. We’re off to discover new landscapes, new civilizations”. Thomas: “It brings a little extra something…”
