“Try to do even better”
It was next to nothing in it. During the 2007 Dakar, he lacked just a few minutes, a little more than ten for Henk Knuiman to attain the objective he set for himself: be among the top ten in the overall standings. The culprit, without doubt, a 10-minute penalty received on the opening day of the rally, for excessive speed. On the first South American edition, the setback was repaired (9th) and the Dutch biker will now have the right to bear a bib with one number. Henk is now part of the elite riders. Added to the honours came the offers for the Dutchman. He naturally accepted the most prestigious one with the responsibilities that go with it: “I was contacted by Jordi Arilla who asked me if I wanted to become the third rider of the Repsol Team for the Dakar. It’s of course a great opportunity to be able to be part of such a squad. I will be riding on the same bike as Marc Coma and Jordi Viladoms! If I find myself in a position to help Marc keep his crown, I will of course do so because that’s the main objective. But in a competitive structure like that one, I’m also present to try and do even better than last year”.
Until now, Henk Knuiman has only rarely suffered upsets. In his brand new team and counting on great support, 2010 could be the year of the revelation with why not a place in the Top 5: “Anyhow I know that I’ll be in good conditions to do so…”
