THE VALUES OF A CENTENARIAN BRAND
BFGoodrich : tires for those who go further…
BFGoodrich has always been associated with the lives of those who seek to surpass their limits. The 1999 Paris-Dakar saw the brand become a motorsport legend when its tires won the celebrated rally in the hands of Jean-Louis Schlesser driving a Renault-engined buggy.
THAT SUCCESS WAS FOLLOWED BY A LONG LIST OF OTHER EXPLOITS…
In 2006, Luc Alphand won the Euromilhöes Dakar in a Mitsubishi Pajero competing on BFGoodrich tyres.
In 2007, the Mitsubishi Pajero driver Stéphane Peterhansel brought the brand its eighth Dakar win, while Volkswagen's Carlos Sainz notched up BFGoodrich's tenth victory on the event in 2010.
These and countless other achievements speak volumes for BFGoodrich ability to design tires that give drivers total control, impeccable response and unrivalled driving precision.
THE ROLE OF AN OFF ROAD TYRE
In all motorsport competitions, tyre is a key element. In rally-raid, the pilots look for tough, multipurpose, strong and robust product, but also more and more performing. A cross-country race gathers often various types of ground (breakable, rocky tracks, sand, dust…) and the teams can face diverse conditions (heat, mud, black-iced ground…). Most of the time, such as for the Rally Dakar, the regulation authorizes only a single type of tyre for all the duration of the rally. A tyre for rally-raid races must then be really multipurpose.

The saga of a pioneering brand
More than any other tire brand, BFGoodrich epitomizes the boldness and all-conquering spirit of those who constantly seek to surpass themselves…
A founder who took major changes of direction in his stride
The path that led Benjamin Franklin Goodrich to the tire industry was anything but straight. Before founding BFGoodrich, he worked as a surgeon, a soldier, an oil-field labourer and an estate agent, and the list goes on…
Maintaining the heading, despite life's twists and turns! That's a philosophy which applies as much to the brand's founder as it does to its products.
Out of the flames…
In 1869, the home of one of Benjamin Franklin Goodrich's friends was consumed by flames. In cold weather, fire fighters could only look on after frozen water caused their leather hoses to burst. The tragedy led Benjamin Franklin to have the idea of manufacturing hoses from cotton-covered rubber which would be insensitive to damage by freezing. This technology went on to be employed for garden hoses and bicycle tires, as well as for landing gear for airplanes and even the space shuttle.
A pioneer for 139 years
Firsts have always been a leitmotiv for BFGoodrich. Major exploits include the first crossing of the USA by car in 1903, the first trans-Atlantic flight in 1927 (the Spirit of St. Louis was equipped with BFGoodrich tires), the USA's first radial tire in 1965, the first run-flat tire in 1967, the first tire with a coloured tread in 1999 and the first 24-inch 4x4 tire in 2002.
